Qinqiang, a time-honored regional opera originating in northwest China's Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, is known for its high-pitched, passionate, solemn, and heroic singing style. In 1912, a group of committed members of the Tongmenghui (China Revolutionary Alliance), driven by a fervent ideal of "enlightening the people and reforming social customs", came together to found the Yisu Lingxue Society, a troupe dedicated to reforming Qinqiang Opera. It would later be renamed the "Yisu Society". Over the past century, the Yisu Society has amassed a rich repertoire of classic Qinqiang Opera, enriching Chinese culture and nurturing generations of artists. It not only stands as a vivid testament to the transformation of Qinqiang as an art form – from traditional troupe performances to modern theater productions – but also epitomizes the creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional Chinese culture.
